Step-by-Step: How to Reconnect Apple CarPlay
1. Check Your Cable or Wireless Connection
If you use a USB cable, try a different Apple-certified cable — a damaged cable is one of the most common culprits. For wireless CarPlay, make sure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both enabled on your iPhone.
2. Forget and Re-Pair CarPlay
On your iPhone, go to Settings → General → CarPlay, select your BMW, and tap Forget This Car. Then reconnect by plugging in your phone or enabling wireless pairing from your BMW’s iDrive system.
3. Restart Your iPhone and BMW iDrive
A simple restart can clear temporary glitches. Restart your iPhone, then turn your BMW off completely, wait 30 seconds, and start it again.
4. Enable CarPlay in iPhone Settings
Make sure CarPlay isn’t restricted. Go to Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → Allowed Apps and confirm CarPlay is toggled on.
5. Check for BMW Software Updates
Your BMW’s iDrive software may need an update. Visit your BMW’s ConnectedDrive portal or contact your BMW Service Advisor to check for available updates.
