The CS badge is back on the M2, and it's exactly as serious as you'd hope. BMW has re-upped one of its most sought-after track-focused coupes for the 2026 model year, and just to prove how much demand is out there, BMW Japan followed it up with an even wilder, ultra-limited version called the M2 CS Edge. Here's what's new, and why enthusiasts everywhere are paying attention.
The 2026 M2 CS, By the Numbers
Under the hood is the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six the M2 lineup is known for, but the CS treatment adds 50 horsepower over the standard car for a total of 523 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. That's enough to send it from 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds on the way to a 188 mph top speed.
- 523 hp / 479 lb-ft from the M TwinPower Turbo inline-six
- 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, top speed of 188 mph
- Curb weight cut by 97 lbs versus the standard M2 thanks to CFRP components and forged M alloy wheels
- Chassis lowered 0.2 inches with CS-specific springs, dampers, and Adaptive M Suspension tuning
- M Sport differential, M Servotronic steering, and M Compound brakes standard, with carbon ceramic brakes available
Carbon Fiber, Inside and Out
The CS treatment isn't just about power. An M Carbon roof, exposed carbon fiber mirror caps, and a carbon fiber rear diffuser cut weight while sharpening the look, and the CFRP trunk lid comes with a built-in ducktail spoiler wearing "M2 CS" badging. Inside, M Carbon bucket seats, a flat-bottomed M Alcantara steering wheel, and carbon fiber trim throughout make it clear this isn't just a trim package.
Enter the M2 CS Edge
If the standard CS wasn't exclusive enough, BMW Japan just built something rarer: the M2 CS Edge, limited to just 40 units worldwide and split evenly between Sapphire Black and Brooklyn Grey. It adds a center-exit exhaust with gold-bronze titanium tailpipes, extra carbon fiber front and rear bumper elements, a carbon fiber diffuser, and carbon-ceramic brakes as standard equipment rather than an option.
Why This Matters Beyond Japan
The Edge is a Japan-market exclusive, so it won't be showing up in our showroom, but it says a lot about where demand for this car is headed. When the standard M2 CS first landed in Japan, all 87 build slots were claimed almost immediately, and BMW's answer was to build something even more extreme. That's the kind of demand signal that tends to mean allocation here in the U.S. will move fast too.
TL;DR: The M2 CS is back for 2026 with 523 hp, a 97-lb weight cut, and carbon fiber everywhere you look, and demand has already been strong enough that BMW Japan built a 40-unit Edge special edition on top of it. If you've been thinking about ordering one, now's the time to talk allocation.
